What Happens When the Music Plays

Architektur ist erstarrte Musik. - Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling
This quote by the famed German philosopher translates to “Architecture is frozen music.”.

Created in a group of four as part of my studies at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria.

Behind the Scenes

The shooting took place in freezing cold weather at the Wolkenturm in Grafenegg. Above you see an early animatic and one of the first tests to combine the filmed footage with the crystals.

Modelling, tracking and rebuilding of the environment were done by my teammates. Once received, I shaded the crystals, which were then placed by a mixture of Octane Scatter objects, the use of Cinema-intern noise shaders (specifically Nutous) and small manual adjustements. Besides this procedural workflow, some crystals and clusters were specifically handcrafted to fit the scene. The lighting was 100% driven by HDRIs we took at the scene.
